Erhürman’s message on mixed marriages and EU citizenship
UN proposals bring EU citizenship for children from mixed marriages and bi-communal sporting activities to the agenda.

President Tufan Erhürman evaluated the inclusion of EU citizenship for children born from mixed marriages and cooperation in the field of sports in international initiatives regarding the Cyprus issue as an important development.
Evaluating the 7 proposals put forward by United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, North Cyprus President Tufan Erhürman stated that it was noteworthy for the issue of EU citizenship for children of mixed marriages to be included in the package.
Pointing out that this matter should be handled beyond political bargaining, Erhürman emphasized the importance of protecting children's rights.
Touching upon the proposals for cooperation in the field of sports, the President stated that bringing children under the age of 15 together through joint events organized between the two communities would contribute to the development of societal relations.
Sharing his approach to the Cyprus negotiations as well, Erhürman underlined that the process should not merely consist of continuing talks but should be based on a concrete solution target.
Furthermore, expressing that consultations with Ankara are ongoing, Erhürman noted that they are acting in line with joint assessments regarding the Cyprus issue.
