Harsh Reaction from Foreign Ministry to EU: "2026 Türkiye Report is Null and Void"

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly reacted to the evaluations regarding Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean in the 2026 Türkiye Report published by the European Commission. The Ministry stated that the report completely ignores the realities on the ground and the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people.
In the written statement, it was emphasized that the European Union blindly adopted the one-sided and maximalist theses of the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo, completely losing its impartiality with this stance and damaging the peaceful environment on the island.
"Sovereign Equality and Equal International Status Are Essential"
The statement recalled that a lasting and sustainable stability on the island can only be established through the acceptance of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people. It was reiterated that the two-state solution vision, rather than outdated federal models, is the only realistic basis on the ground.
Emphasis on the Eastern Mediterranean and Maraş
Stating that the criticisms in the report regarding the legitimate rights of Türkiye and the TRNC in the Eastern Mediterranean and the initiative for the fenced-off area of Maraş are unacceptable, the following statements were included:
The steps taken in the fenced-off area of Maraş are carried out in full compliance with international law and property rights; third-party intervention in the process is null and void.
No initiative ignoring the rights of the Turkish Cypriot side regarding maritime jurisdiction areas and hydrocarbon resources in the Eastern Mediterranean will be allowed.
Emphasizing that the legitimate rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people will continue to be resolutely protected in full solidarity and coordination with the Republic of Türkiye, the TRNC Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the European Union to see the realities on the island and abandon its biased approach.
